Timber Fruit Cage Installation in Reading RG14
Our client in Reading wanted a sturdy, permanent structure to protect their fruit plants from birds and pests. The garden lacked any protection, leaving crops vulnerable to damage throughout the growing season.
What we did
- Installed pressure-treated timber as the foundation framework to resist rot and weathering in the RG14 area.
- Erected softwood timber posts as the main vertical supports, anchored securely into the ground.
- Fixed timber battens horizontally across the frame to create the structural grid.
- Secured all joints using wood screws and galvanised bolts and brackets for durability and strength.
- Attached galvanised mesh netting across the entire structure to exclude birds while allowing light and water through.
The completed fruit cage now stands as a solid, functional feature in the Reading garden. The galvanised mesh netting is fine enough to keep out smaller pests, while the pressure-treated timber and galvanised fittings will withstand years of exposure to the Reading climate. We completed the installation in 5 days on site.
A proper fruit cage transforms how you grow soft fruits, and this one will do the job reliably for seasons to come.
