Bespoke fitted shelving system installed in SW15

The client needed practical storage that would fit their London SW15 space precisely, without the expense or waste of off-the-shelf units. Their room lacked proper shelving, leaving them with nowhere suitable to display and organise their belongings.

What we did

• Built the structural frame using pressure-treated timber and pine 4x2 and pine 3x2 as the supporting skeleton.
• Cut and fitted chipboard and plywood sheets for the actual shelf surfaces, ensuring they sat level and square.
• Installed softwood battens and timber battens horizontally to support the shelving load across the walls in SW15.
• Secured everything in place with 3.5mm x 50mm wood screws, drilling pilot holes to prevent splitting.
• Fitted shelf brackets and L-brackets at regular intervals to reinforce the weight-bearing capacity.
• Added adjustable shelf pins where the design called for flexibility in shelf height.
• Prepared all exposed surfaces with 120 and 180 grit sandpaper for a smooth, professional finish.
• Applied sanding sealer and emulsion paint to match the client's décor, bringing the whole installation together.

The finished shelving system filled the allocated wall space across the SW15 property, providing robust storage with a clean, built-in look. All timber was properly finished, and the shelves proved solid and level. The work was completed in 8 hours on site, causing minimal disruption.

The client now has shelving that actually fits their room and their life.
